On 13 Jan 1635 he bought 20 acres of land and the house on it from John Barnes of Plymouth. It had formerly been owned by Edward Holman. He immediately begain business, with Samuel Godbarson bound to him as an apprentice no later than Apr 1635. In 1639 he was granted land with Josiah Cooke at Plymouth. In 1644 he was of the grand inquest, and was then a resident of Plymouth. In 1645 he moved to Nausett with others. In 1647 he was sent with Josiah Cooke as representative (deputy) to the Colony court at Plymouth. He represented Eastham again at the same court in 1653, 1655, 1657-8, 1660, and 1665. In 1651 he was surveyor for Eastham. In 1666 and 1668 he was selectman. He was one of the first overseers of the poor, appointed in 1658 by Eastham. The same year he agreed to furnish men and equipment for "the troop of horse". He agreed to provide, so long as he was able, "one man and a horse for teh country's service" on the condition that the town furnished the "furniture". At different times he was granted land. In 1657 he was granted a tract 13 miles from Rehoboth. In 1658, with 4 associates, he had a grant of land between Bridgewater and Weymouth. In 1667 he sold a large tract to Jonathan Sparrow in what is now East Orleans, where he may have lived prior to moving to New Jersey. By Nov 1672 he was living in "New Pascataway in the province of New Jersey", 13 miles northeast of Princeton. It had only been settled for a few years, mostly by people from New England. The Higginses of the Cape are his descendants.1
